Irobot Create 3 platform
Ubuntu 20.04 and ROS Noetic
SLAMTEC RPLiDAR
Luxonis DepthAI 3D camera
The Turtlebot 4 Pro and Turtlebot 4 Lite are produced by Clearpath Robotics from Canada and operated under the OSRF (Open Source Robotics Foundation) as an official ROS 2.0 development platform. Like the Turtlebot 1, this robot is based on a chassis from iRobot, the so called Create 3 platform.
Like its predecessors, the new TB4 is delivered with an extensive software base, which should offer a quick and easy entry into ROS, especially the ROS 2.0 framework. This includes a complete SLAM & Navigation Stack, as well as a very good Gazebo simulation. This means that fewer Turtlebots are needed for teaching at the beginning, since the simulation environment can be used for theoretical content first.
The three biggest differences between the TB4 Pro and the TB4 Lite are as follows: the TB4 Lite is a kit, while the TB4 Pro comes fully assembled; the TB4 Lite uses an OAK D Lite, while the TB4 Pro uses an OAK D Pro; and both platforms have a SLAMTEC LiDAR installed. Additionally, the TB4 Pro comes with mounting plates for additional equipment.
