The Sherline Vertical Sheer Bit is a specialized finishing tool designed for use in precision machining. It is particularly effective for finish turning operations, where it is employed after the initial rough turning has been completed, leaving the workpiece slightly oversized. This tool is engineered to achieve a fine finish by removing minimal material, with a recommended depth of cut ranging from .001″ to .003″.
Unlike standard cutting tools, the Vertical Sheer Bit is intentionally designed not to cut on the center-line, which necessitates the use of a specific tool holder. It is compatible with the Quick-Change 1/4″ Tool Holder, which must be used in conjunction with the Sherline Quick-Change Tool Post to ensure optimal performance. This design consideration allows for enhanced control and precision during the finishing process, contributing to superior surface quality on the final product.
Note: The Vertical Sheer Bit is not compatible with standard Sherline tool holders and should be used with the appropriate Quick-Change Tool Holder to avoid improper function.
