The Sherline 8-Inch Tabletop Lathe Package A CNC Ready (Metric) (EU) is an exemplary machine designed for precision and versatility in crafting small parts. This desktop-sized lathe offers the precision and accuracy typically associated with full-sized machines, making it an ideal choice for those working with materials such as wood, plastic, aluminum, and steel. Manufactured in the USA, this lathe is equipped with factory-installed stepper motor mounts, allowing for the integration of 23-frame size stepper motors and computer numeric controls. However, it is important to note that the lathe is not operational until these motors are installed, as it does not include stepper motors, a computer, or CNC software.
The lathe features a robust 90V DC motor with an electronic speed controller, ensuring smooth and variable spindle speeds. The machine's design includes a 15-inch steel bed, providing ample space for an 8-inch distance between centers, and a crosslide measuring 2.75 inches by 6.0 inches. The lathe is also equipped with three laser-engraved aluminum handwheels, which can be utilized for manual control when dual-shaft stepper motors are installed. The A Package further enhances the lathe's capabilities with the inclusion of a 2.5-inch 3-jaw self-centering chuck and a 1/4-inch tailstock drill chuck with key, along with Morse arbors and a drawbolt.
This CNC-ready lathe is complemented by a range of standard equipment, including pulleys, a drive belt, a faceplate, a lathe dog, two dead centers, three hexagonal keys, a tool post, a sharpened high-speed steel cutting tool, and an eight-foot three-wire power cord. An instruction manual is also provided to assist users in setting up and operating the machine. For those working with materials like brass or wood, it is advisable to use a toggle switch dust cover to extend the life of the motor and speed control.
Note: CNC-ready machines cannot be operated manually unless double-shaft stepper motors are installed.
