The Sherline 18-Inch NexGen Benchtop Mill XY Base DRO (Metric) is a sophisticated milling base designed for precision and efficiency. This model is part of the 5800-series and features DRO handwheels, encoders, and sensors, which are compatible with a digital readout box, although the box is not included. The mill base is equipped with an 18-inch extended mill table, providing ample space for various milling tasks.

The handwheels on this mill are specially designed with DRO 2-inch handwheels on both the Y-axis leadscrew and the X-axis table feed screw. These handwheels can be electronically reset to zero with a simple button press on the DRO display box, enhancing precision and ease of use. Each handwheel is crafted with laser-engraved aluminum collars, ensuring durability and clear visibility of measurements.

An oil reservoir is integrated into the X/Y axes, facilitating smooth operation and maintenance. The travel capacity of the mill is substantial, with the X-axis allowing for 13.65 inches of movement and the Y-axis accommodating 11.0 inches, making it suitable for a wide range of milling applications.

Optional upgrades are available for the Y-axis leadscrew cover, including a brass tube cover for the rear and an accordion way cover for both the front and rear. However, it is important to note that the brass tube cover requires the purchase of a Rigid Mill Column Base, as the round column base of the 8-direction mill is incompatible with this setup.
