The Sherline 18-Inch NexGen Benchtop Mill XY Base CNC-Ready (Inch) is a sophisticated milling machine base designed for precision and versatility. This model is part of the 5800-series and is engineered to accommodate stepper motors on each axis, facilitating the transition to CNC operations. The base is equipped with mounts for NEMA #23 stepper motors on both the X and Y axes, although the stepper motors themselves are not included. This feature allows for seamless integration of CNC capabilities, enhancing the machine's adaptability for various milling tasks.

The mill base features an 18-inch extended mill table, providing ample space for a range of milling operations. The handwheels, which are included, can be attached to the stepper motors, allowing for manual control when necessary. These handwheels are resettable and zero adjustable, with laser-engraved aluminum collars, ensuring precise manual adjustments and ease of use.

An oil reservoir is integrated into the X/Y axes, promoting smooth operation and reducing wear over time. The travel capacity of the mill is substantial, with the X-axis offering 8.65 inches (220 mm) and the Y-axis providing 11.0 inches (279 mm) of movement.
