Pololu 12V Step-Down Voltage Regulator D30V30F12
High-efficiency (80-95%)
Over-current protection
Compact design
Low quiescent current
Thermal shutdown feature
The Pololu 12V Step-Down Voltage Regulator D30V30F12 is a synchronous buck voltage regulator designed to produce a lower output voltage from input voltages up to 45 V. These regulators are highly efficient compared to linear voltage regulators, particularly when there is a significant difference between the input and output voltages. The device is capable of supporting continuous output currents in a range that varies with the input and output voltages.
This regulator is equipped with several protective features, including reverse voltage protection, input under-voltage lockout, over-current protection, and short-circuit protection. Additionally, it incorporates a thermal shutdown mechanism to prevent damage due to overheating and a soft-start feature that controls the inrush current and allows the output voltage to ramp up gradually upon startup.
The D30V30F12 model provides a fixed 12 V output with a 4% accuracy level. It boasts a typical efficiency of 80% to 95%, which is influenced by the input voltage, output voltage, and load. The regulator operates with a switching frequency of approximately 700 kHz under heavy loads and includes a power-save mode to enhance light load efficiency by reducing the switching frequency. It also features a low quiescent current and an enable input with a precise cutoff threshold for disconnecting the load and putting the regulator into a low-power state. A "power good" output is available to indicate the regulators ability to maintain the output voltage, and frequency spread spectrum operation is utilized to reduce peak EMI noise.
The regulators compact dimensions allow for easy integration into various applications. It also includes mounting holes to facilitate secure installation.
When using the regulator, it offers six connections: power good, enable, input voltage, output voltage, and two ground connections. The "power good" indicator is an open-drain output that signals when the output voltage deviates significantly from the nominal voltage. The regulator is enabled by default but can be put into a low-power sleep state by adjusting the voltage on the enable pin. The input voltage powers the regulator, and the effective lower limit of the input voltage is generally the output voltage plus the regulators dropout voltage. The regulated output voltage is provided at the output voltage connection.
During normal operation, this product can become hot enough to cause burns. Caution should be exercised when handling this product or any components connected to it.
