The Motoron M3S256 Triple Motor Controller Shield Kit for Arduino (w/ Connectors) is a sophisticated device designed to facilitate the control of DC motors via an Arduino or a compatible board through an I²C interface. This kit is capable of independently managing up to three motors. For projects requiring control over a larger number of motors, multiple shields can be conveniently stacked on the same Arduino.
The Motoron M3S256 shield simplifies the process of controlling up to three bidirectional, brushed DC motors with an Arduino or a compatible board. It is designed to support motor supply voltages ranging from 4.5 V to 48 V and can deliver continuous output currents up to 2 A per motor. The unique feature of this shield is that it does not require any PWM outputs or timers on the Arduino. Instead, it communicates with the Arduino using I²C, requiring only two I/O lines, irrespective of the number of Motorons connected.
This particular version of the Motoron comes as a kit with various connectors included but not soldered in. These connectors include a 1x10 stackable female header, a 1x8 stackable female header, four 2-pin 3, four 2-pin 5mm screw terminal blocks, and a 1x25 breakaway male header.
The Motoron M3S256 boasts a wide range of features and specifications. It offers three motor control channels for independent control of up to three bidirectional brushed DC motors. It has a wide motor supply voltage range and a maximum output current per motor. It also features reverse-voltage protection on the motor power supply, a logic voltage range, and a control interface. Other notable features include optional cyclic redundancy checking (CRC), configurable motion parameters, a command timeout feature, configurable automatic error response, motor power supply (VIN) voltage measurement, and optional pins for powering the Arduino from reverse-protected motor power. The kit also includes two status LEDs, motor direction indicator LEDs, and a comprehensive user’s guide.
Important Note: The command timeout feature is designed to stop motors if the Arduino stops functioning. This is a crucial safety feature to prevent any potential damage or accidents.
1x Motoron M3S256 Triple Motor Controller Shield
1x 1x8 Stackable Female Header
4x 2-pin 3.5 mm Terminal Blocks
4x 2-pin 5 mm Screw Terminal Blocks
1x 1x25 Breakaway Male Header (can be cut or broken into smaller header strips as needed)
The kit contains more parts than can be soldered to the board, offering various assembly options for different applications. Additional connector options can be purchased separately. Wires can also be soldered directly to the board for more compact installations.
