The DFRduino UNO R3 w/ IO Expansion Shield & USB Cable A-B is a compact microcontroller board designed for academic and development purposes. It is fully compatible with the Arduino UNO R3 and the Arduino IDE, which supports the Processing/Wiring language. This board can be utilized to create stand-alone interactive objects or integrated with computer software such as Flash, Processing, and MaxMSP.

Equipped with the ATmega16U2 programmed as a USB-to-serial converter, the DFRduino features a DIP package AVR Chip, allowing for easy removal and reprogramming. The board's headers are color-coded to distinguish between different I/O ports: red for power, blue for analog I/O, and green for digital I/O, facilitating straightforward sensor connections.

The microcontroller is based on the ATmega328 and includes 14 digital input/output pins, 6 of which can be used as PWM outputs, and 6 analog inputs. It operates with a 16 MHz crystal oscillator and can be powered via a USB connection, AC-to-DC adapter, or battery. Additional features include SDA and SCL pins near the AREF pin, and IOREF pins that allow shields to adapt to the board's voltage, ensuring future compatibility with both 5V and 3.3V systems.
